What Visitors Are Saying

Reviews on Tripadvisor and Yelp mostly praise the range of luxury brands, the ice rink and the holiday decorations. The most common complaints are weekend crowds and busy garages, so weekday mornings are the easiest time to visit.

Is the Galleria Mall a Safe Place to Shop?

Yes, the Galleria Mall is generally considered a safe shopping center, thanks to one of the most robust security programs in the city. While there were several high-profile crimes in the first half of 2025 that caused public concern, both mall management and the Houston Police Department have since significantly increased their visible presence on the property. As the mall’s statement indicates, the Galleria is fortified with an extensive network of thousands of CCTV cameras, license plate readers at all vehicle entrances, K9 units, and dozens of on-site police and security personnel who patrol 24/7. The primary risk for visitors remains property crime in the sprawling parking garages, with the Yellow parking lot being the most notorious. By taking common-sense precautions—parking in well-lit areas, not leaving valuables visible in your car, and being aware of your surroundings—visitors can feel very secure inside the heavily monitored and patrolled mall itself.

Nearby Malls in Houston to Consider

  • River Oaks District: open-air luxury boutiques such as Hermès, Dior and Cartier, about 15 minutes’ walk or a short drive east on Westheimer.
  • Highland Village: a relaxed open-air center with fashion and home brands, a few minutes further east.
  • Memorial City Mall: a large enclosed mall with mainstream brands, about 15 minutes west by car (its ice rink closes for good after December 14, 2026).
